Slipcovered sofas are very practical, yet they still have that "designer" look people seem to crave. Big retailers such as Pottery Barn, Crate & Barrel, and Restoration Hardware began offering slipcovered sofas several years ago. Being able to remove ALL pieces allows you to launder slipcovers when needed. People with young children and/or pets can have the best of both worlds: a designer sofa that cleans up well.
Many people are choosing micro-fiber fabrics (not just micro-suede) because of the versatility and cleanability. I have personally removed a greasy pepperoni pizza stain (my daughter stuffed a whole piece behind a cushion that left a triangular shaped grease stain), blue ballpoint pen "artwork" (yes, courtesy of the same sweet little girl), and a full glass of milk (which, on upholstered sofas, would have left a sour smell).
